2010

Climate Reality Week

UQCfC were the runner up winners of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition’ Climate Reality Week competition, for the seminar and forum held at UQ in May 2010, ‘The reality about climate change’.

Over 200 people were in attendance for a seminar presented by John Cook (Skeptical Science), followed by a panel discussion of the myths and facts about climate change with Prof. Ove Hoegh-Guldberg (The Global Change Institute), and Dr. Chris McGrath (GPEM).

An event that took place September which showcased social clubs, societies, environmental groups based at UQ and in the wider Brisbane area to UQ students – organised in collaboration with marketing and communications students at UQ

Brisbane Climate Action Rally!

We united in April 2011 with our friends at the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, GetUp!, Greenpeace, Oxfam, QLD Conservation Council, Australian Conservation Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, Union Climate Connectors and others to demand a healthy, secure future for our environment and economy.

David Suzuki, Force of Nature film screening

David Suzuki, iconic Canadian scientist, educator, broadcaster and activist delivers a ‘last lecture’ — what he describes as “a distillation of my life and thoughts, my legacy, what I want to say before I die”.

UQ Climate for Change hosted a screening which attracted over 200 attendees, and we raised over $700 for the Girringun relief appeal “Recovery for People & Country” after Cyclone Yasi in north Queensland.

Full Moon Fiestas

We linked up with EcoBug and the UQ Vegetarian & Healthy Lifestyle Society for several full moon feasts over 2011, with heaps of delicious food an good conversations to boot!

Wandoan Mega Mine Info Night

In August 2011, UQ Climate for Change hosted an information evening marking the landmark case between Friends of the Earth and mining giant Xstrata, in the fight for a safe climate against coal mining expansion.
